Tidbits

Well what an amazing week or two in Australian politics. I don't want to go into too much detail concerning Brogden's demise apart from to say that he had to go but no one wanted the guy to hurt himself. The good thing to come from this is that the hardcore right are being flushed out into the open - read the latest from the SMH. The moderates in NSW have had some control of the party - that is dying -but the other problem is that at a federal level the haedcore right have the top job including the PM.

Other interesting things in the news of late:
  • A fantastic article from the always worthwhile Ross Gittins in the SMH. This one concerns the over emphasis given to the GDP statistic - the measure of economic growth.
  • Well Nelson has slightly firmed as the next PM and is desperate to get any media attention. This example shows his desperation. It concerns the inclusion of surfing in the Sport Leisure and Recreation in Byron - geeeeez what an outrage!
  • My what! article for today is this one again from Nelson who denies that HECS create an overwhelming debt - says Nelson who probably never paid for one bit of his very long education career.
  • Another great article from Gavin Mooney at Online Opinion who is 'sickened' by the calls to reduce taxes (and once again for the rich). It follows another article he did earlier in the year that I would consider one of my favourite opinion pieces this year - a must read.
I have also returned to the letter to the editor writing fold. It was in the Hawkesbury Gazette last week - it concerned Telstra.
